Modern Gurukulam System

It is a proven fact that the important formative years of a child are between grades 6 and 12. These are the years when the child develops academically, but more importantly emotionally! As the child moves from teenage into adolescence, careful attention to every child’s emotional and behavioural aspects becomes extremely important, so as to help the child pick up the right value system, that could help the child all through his or her life. Considerable time and efforts are needed to groom the child as a complete personality, failing which it can lead to lopsided development that can have adverse effects, especially in today’s highly competitive world.

We firmly believe that in the coming decades stress in the life of a human being is only going to increase. So, there is a need to teach in the present-day schools how to cope with that. Research has shown that by and by, the Spiritual Quotient and the Emotional Quotient are becoming equally important, if not more important, than Intelligence Quotient. We take this responsibility very seriously to help children develop the right behaviour which would create joy and happiness in their own life and in the life of those around them.

Education experts define the most important skills for the twenty first century students of a global society, as the 4 C’s – critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. But, we consider the 5th C – character over and above the 4 C’s, as the most important. Simply put, Character is the ability to do right always. Understandably, all of this requires considerable time and focussed effort. Therefore, reducing the unwanted academic burden by enabling the child and the parents to choose the right subjects, based on the child’s aptitude and interest, can help the child immensely, and allow enough time to learn other important skills, for not just surviving but thriving in the 21st century. NIOS is therefore the perfect choice to implement this idea of a holistic development of children and better prepare for a global future.

Thus, the transformation of Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Group of Educational Institutions into Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam, with a focused approach to learning in line with the twenty first century world, is the way forward.

National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Board

The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) – which is responsible for all education related activities has only two recognised boards under it:
(a) CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education)
(b) NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling)
NIOS is the largest open schooling system in the world. Between the academic years 2016 – 2019 approximately 18 Lakh students took the examination for the secondary and senior secondary boards under NIOS. It has 18 regional offices catering to all States of India.
The two important milestones in a child’s life are the board examinations in grade 10 and 12. Examinations conducted by NIOS are similar to the State, CBSE or ICSE, including the standards and the recognition it enjoys. Thus, a NIOS student can apply to any school or college, anywhere in the country, due its national curriculum and nationally acceptable certification, which in certain cases has more appeal than the state board certificates obtained by undertaking studies in regional languages.
Only two public (Board) exams are conducted, that is, grade 10 and 12, unlike other boards where quarterly, half yearly or annual examinations are mandatory. This reduces the undue pressure on the child, and makes learning more relaxing and enjoyable. The student can fully focus on his or her subjects of choice, which he or she will write during the board examinations of grade 10 or 12, and thus will be able to prepare better. This does not mean that the student will not be assessed for his or her progress between grades 6 and 9. In fact, continuous testing and assessment will be done internally by our competent teachers, without burdening the child with the strenuous annual examination which typically last for three hours.
More importantly, the flexibility of choice of subjects under NIOS allows students to select their choicest subjects from the prescribed categories, and thus create an ideal subject combination that suits their aptitude best. However, to help you understand here is an example. If a child is more inclined towards science and maths, but less interested in social sciences, now the child has the choice to replace social science with any other subject of interest, including music! This only helps to reduce the unwanted burden on the child of compulsorily studying the subject that he or she dislikes, and the child can rather focus all efforts to perform better in the subjects of his or her choice, leading to better achievements and higher marks. As a result, the child is happier and more confident.
This flexibility however, is missing in the other state and central boards, where the child must mandatorily write all subjects as prescribed by the board, whether he or she likes or not and whether he or she wants to further study those subjects in higher classes or not. For instance, if a student has decided to take science in PUC, then he or she can skip social science and other unrelated subjects in grade 10 examinations and replace them with any other subject of choice which will help in better performance. Similarly, the choice of subjects in PUC can be based on what the student wants to study further in his or her graduate studies, be it science, humanities, commerce, medicine, technology or anything else of his or her choice. The certificates issued by NIOS grades 10 and 12 (PUC) are valid globally.

Student life

Daily routine on campus.
The day begins and ends with a prayer. The morning sessions in the University begins with the universal prayer, based on the unity of religions. Community singing of Bhajan in the hostels is held every evening. Before retiring for the night, students sit around the altar in their respective accommodation and chant prayers dedicating all their day’s activity to the Divine.

Students have the opportunity to listen to their fellow students, teachers and many important guests on the campus. These guests include men and women who have attained great success in their respective fields – ministers, administrators, industrialists, judges, ambassadors, entrepreneurs, artists and sports persons, amongst others. When students interact with these guests they imbibe the values and importance of the path of devotion to God and the path of goodness and godliness. In addition, weekly study circle sessions take place where spiritual questions are raised and answered.

Performing Arts

Performing Arts nurture creativity, self-expression, and confidence through music, dance, and theater. At SSSPNK, students explore their artistic potential while building essential life skills and cultural appreciation. More : Engaging in performing arts at SSSPNK fosters holistic development in children by enhancing their creativity, emotional intelligence, and self-confidence. Through dance, they learn discipline, rhythm, and physical coordination, while music sharpens their auditory skills and emotional expression. Participation in theater cultivates communication, teamwork, and empathy as they step into diverse roles. These experiences not only allow students to explore their artistic potential but also help them develop resilience, self-esteem, and a deeper appreciation for culture and tradition, shaping them into well-rounded individuals.
